For the young and young at heart, Greater Hamilton is certainly the place for spirited, entertaining and joyful undertakings. Drawing inspiration from three essential kid’s activities; playing, riding and discovering we have devised an agenda of fun. Play @ Lake Hamilton
Lake Hamilton is a pristine lake surrounded by 25 hectares of lush parkland. That’s a lot of room for play! The waters of the lake are ideal for adventuring; fishing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing and canoeing. And with plenty of lush lawn around the banks of the lake, rest and relaxation is totally doable. Flick out your towel, pull up a camp chair or layout your picnic rug and settle in for an afternoon well spent.
The walking/bike track of the lake allows you to take in the total expanse. The track runs for just over 4kms. It is well made, a gentle walk/ride and it has plenty of places to stop along the way to recoup and regroup. This track also lends itself to the weekly Hamilton Park Run, a 5km run around the lake, free for anyone to participate.
A hop, skip, jump, slide and swing from the Hamilton Lake is the Lakes Edge Adventure Playground, a mere 20m from Hamilton Lake. This all-abilities access playground is teeming with equipment and fun! There is a towering climbing structure, steep twisting-turning-spiralling slide, spinners, swingers, see-saw, hammock, climbing wall, play ship, sandpit, diggers, the list goes on and on! There is also plenty of shelter, BBQs, picnic tables, water taps and toilets.

Ride @ Hamilton Model Railway Museum
Ride the rails at Hamilton Model Railway Museum. This museum has been established and continues to be devotedly run by the Hamilton Model Railway Group Inc; a group of friends with a keen interest in Australian Model Railways.
Open to the public the 1st Sunday of each month (stay tuned on Facebook for additional days and times), the museum offers children all the curiosity and delight of the railway. Inside the clubrooms, kids can take stock of the model display of Kilmore East, as well as a range of railway memorabilia. Outside, they can take to the tracks and ride an assortment of miniature railcars while spotting the new art murals on the circuit. And be sure to keep an eye on the socials too, the club is often playing host to some much-loved, fun-filled, children events like the renowned ‘Teddy Bear Picnic’ and the newest addition ‘Christmas on the Train’.

Discover @ HIRL Parklands & Bandicoot Enclosure
The Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning (HIRL) is a multi-purpose, native based precinct that showcases sustainability values in its buildings, gardens and parklands. HIRL is the gateway to the Eastern Barred Bandicoot and native grasslands/bush enclosure. Encompassing an indigenous food garden, children’s native play garden, red gum carvings, nature trail, veggie garden, picnic areas, and Creative Arts Centre.
The HIRL nature trail takes a walker through the native bushland surrounding the HIRL reservoir. Take in the 12 informative signs displaying magnificent paintings of the local flora and fauna. The walk around the reservoir in its beautiful natural bush land takes a little over half an hour and along it you will see native birds and wildlife, as well as the native plants representative of the western district bushlands and grassy plains.
Discover yourself the beauty of the wide open gardens. With space to fly a kite, picnic with the family or skip till your hearts are content, you will delighted with what you discover.
