Discover Balmoral
Naturally Fun. Friendly. Instagrammable. Unexpectedly Beautiful.
Rocklands Reservoir, wild flowers galore, river walks that feel worlds away from your everyday… and yes, THAT mural. Balmoral is exceptionally welcoming, rural and charming.
Balmoral is an historic pastoral township nestled amongst rolling hills on the Glenelg River. Home to the naturally spectacular Rocklands Reservoir and Glenelg River Wetlands and River Walk, dotted with magnificent red gums – it’s natural treasures are not to be missed as you explore this exceptional part of the Greater Hamilton region.
In the historically-charming main street you will find the bold, contemporary and rather dramatic Balmoral Mural. The creators of this colourful masterpiece were internationally acclaimed artists, Geoffrey Carran and Rowena Martinich. The side of the community store was their canvas and the result is an unforgettable, colourful piece of art that reflects the vibrant birdlife and wild flowers of Balmoral. It’s a must see and totally insta-worthy.
Getting back to nature is easy in Balmoral. Spoilt for choice, the Rocklands Reservoir on the Glenelg River is littered with picturesque spots and tracks around the foreshore, making it the ideal destination for camping, fishing and water sports. Alternatively, the nearby Black Range State Park (Burrunj) will take your breath away, with masses of wildflowers, orchids, aboriginal rock art, dramatic bluffs and endless views. You will be forced to slow your pace and take your time, in this limitless space.
The Old Courthouse, Gaol, Post Office and churches evoke the history of early settlement in eras gone by, but Balmoral truly comes alive with their events. The annual Easter Saturday street market is a must do, coupled with Chameleon Arts Collective’s pop-up events make Balmoral the place to be.
Balmoral has something for everyone; history, the arts, camping, water sports, farm stays, family getaways – and a warm welcome, always.
